In 2025, Central Iowa Water Works issued its first lawn-watering ban in history because nitrate levels in the source water exceeded safe limits. For families with infants, pregnant mothers, or anyone concerned about long-term water quality, the right home water treatment makes a measurable difference. Clarity Water Solutions helps you understand what is in your water and what, if anything, you should do about it.

What we test for (free)

  • Total dissolved solids (TDS)
  • Hardness (calcium and magnesium)
  • Chlorine and chloramine
  • Iron
  • pH
  • Nitrate indicator
  • Visible sediment and color

Every free water test includes a printed report. The report is yours to keep. If you want recommendations, we explain your options and what each would cost. If you do not want recommendations, we leave you with the data and you decide what to do with it. That is the whole service.

A note from the founder

After the 2025 nitrate emergency, my wife and I started asking harder questions about our own water. What I found was that getting honest answers was surprisingly hard. The big dealerships wanted to send a salesperson to my house before they would tell me a price. The smaller companies were focused on the lowest bid, not on explaining what my family actually needed. Nobody was treating me like a capable adult who could make my own decision if I had the facts.

I started Clarity Water Solutions to be the company I wished had existed. We test your water. We explain what we find. We show you the options. You decide. That is the whole story.

Questions and answers

1. Is the water test really free?
Yes. No obligation, no sales pitch. You keep the full printed report.
2. When do you start installing systems?
We are finalizing our Iowa plumbing contractor license and expect to begin installations in July 2026. Everyone who completes a water test is on our priority list with priority pricing.
3. Do I have to buy anything?
No. We test your water, explain the numbers, and leave you with a printed report. If you want to install a system later, you are first in line. That is it.
4. What do you test for?
Total dissolved solids, hardness, chlorine and chloramine, iron, pH, nitrate indicators, and visible sediment. The printed report is yours to keep.
5. How long does the test take?
About 30 minutes. We come to your home at a time that works for you.
6. Is my information shared with anyone?
No. We do not sell or share contact information. See our privacy policy for the specifics.
7. What areas do you serve?
Currently taking water test appointments in West Des Moines, Waukee, Ankeny, Urbandale, Clive, Johnston, and surrounding Central Iowa communities.
8. Why does Des Moines water matter so much?
Central Iowa water comes primarily from the Raccoon and Des Moines Rivers, which carry nitrate levels from agricultural runoff. Hardness in the metro averages 9 grains per gallon, above the national average. These conditions affect taste, appliance life, and for some families, health.
9. Do you test well water or only city water?
Both. Well water testing is especially valuable because well water varies household to household.
10. How are you different from Culligan, Kinetico, or Rainsoft?
We are locally owned, not a dealership or franchise. We charge flat rate pricing, not quotes tied to a sales commission structure. We focus on two things (reverse osmosis and water heater maintenance) rather than selling every product in a catalog. And we never send a salesperson. A licensed technician tests your water and explains your options. You decide.
